My impression in the BK days (Before Keira) was that babies did not really do much early on – they just eat / sleep / poo / cry on a repeat cycle, pretty much until they are old enough to stand up and run around, at which point you can play with their toys, throw them up in the air, watch cartoons with them, and/or tickle them. In the early days with Keira, I found that whilst these were all true – babies do not do much early – her skills in building a relationship with those around her did start much earlier than I expected. From three months the first smiles came out, and you could tell that she was getting use to the people around her, and starting to distinguish different faces. For both Heidi and I, it was often a highlight of the day to get up in the morning and see her for the first time after she woke, at which point she would recognize us, and just smile. It does not take much: that was all it needed, and it meant the world.
