Following on from the Beijing Olympics in 2008, in 2010 Shanghai hosted the World Expo

 

The whole city had a facelift, while pretty much every country in the world built their own pavilions in the Expo. Some were better than others, some just had really long queues…

Many different countries had their own pavillions
The UK one was architecturally unique
Someone clearly looked at Disney and thought 'lets have a parade!'
Trouble was no-one knew any of the characters
Although there were some local ethnic influences

The Spain pavilion had a strong flamenco influence

The Saudi pavilion was the most expensive, even if it made their officials look like characters from South Park
The China pavilion is the only one that remains after the Expo finished
